Meet Joan from Uganda
Mon, Feb 8, 2010
Our family sponsored a girl from Uganda last year at the World Vision Experience: Aids- Step Into Africa event that came to the Grove Church in Riverisde. It was an amazing event and I was happy that Perryann, my 16 year old, experienced it. Perryann already sponsors a little girl in Guatemala named Alba Marina and has been for the past 3 years but we wanted to sponsor a child that our whole family can build a relationship with. We let Perryann and Gracie look through all of the pictures that were displayed and they picked Joan.

Joan is 7 years old. We received our first letter from Joan last week and it included these pictures (below). Awesome huh? Not awesome that they live in poverty or that their country is plagued by Aids, but awesome that we get a look into her life and can be a part of watching her grow up healthy with the love of Christ in her heart. We sent a financial gift her their families greatest needs and that is why there is goats and a bed in the picture. The best is that she got a new Christmas dress (she is wearing it) and that she signed the letter your lovely daughter. Okay, awesome huh?

Joan has three brothers and a new brother or sister, we cant tell from the picture but he/she was not mentioned in her original packet so we don’t know yet. (Don’t know why the picture scanned in black and white but I could not figure out how to get it into color…bummed)
Do you or have you ever considered sponsoring a child through World Vision, Favor of God or Compassion Intl.?

Oh, that is so awesome. Especially the Ugandans are so thankful for everything. I’ve had my own experience with Ugandans that were stationed in Iraq and they’ve been so thankful for every little gesture and they pretty much called me Sister or Moma too. I was told that it is a sign of respect and they are true believers. Their love for god is BIIIG! Really Really Really Big and they write with so much love and passion that I sometimes had tears in my eyes and wanted to hug them right there and then.
